Classic Duel Strategy Guide
Classic 1v1 Duel looks simple, but it has a lot of depth. This guide covers the numbers behind the assault rifle, how to open a match, how to use the medkits and how to beat the computer opponent. You can try every idea in Classic 1v1 Duel.
The numbers that matter
Every fighter has 100 health and each rifle bullet deals 8 damage, so a kill takes 13 hits. A full magazine holds 30 rounds, which is 240 potential damage, or about two and a half kills if every bullet hit. A reload takes 1.5 seconds. Since no one hits every shot, a duel is really a contest of accuracy and ammo. Whoever wastes fewer bullets and survives more of the opponent's bullets wins.
The opening
You start on one side of a mirrored map. Spend the first seconds moving toward the center and the nearest medkit, but do not run in a straight line. You get brief protection at the start of the match and after every respawn, but it ends when you fire. Use it to check angles, not to start a long fight with an empty plan.
Mid-fight habits
Strafe, fire bursts of four to six shots and use the crates and the center block to break the line of sight. Reload when you are hidden, not when the magazine runs dry. If you notice your opponent has fired a long burst, push forward during their reload window. If your health is under about 40, retreat to a medkit instead of trading.
Medkit control
Up to three medkits can be on the map, and a new one appears about every seven seconds while there are fewer than three. They only work when you are hurt. In a long match the fighter who controls the kits wins. When your opponent is low on health, position yourself between them and the nearest kit.
Closing out and reading the computer
At four kills, stop taking unnecessary fights. Keep cover between you and your opponent and make them come to you. The computer opponent leads its shots, strafes, uses cover and retreats to heal when its health is low. After it takes a hit, it changes strafe direction, so expect a sudden reversal. Wait for those reversals and fire where it will be. When you are comfortable, read the overall mode strategy guide.
Frequently asked questions
Is it better to rush or wait? Neither. Moving toward the center while strafing and using cover is the safest approach.
