How to Fix Browser Game Loading Problems

By the Top-Down Arena team · October 31, 2026 · 6 min read

Most loading problems have simple causes. This checklist walks through them in order, from the quickest fix to the more unusual ones, and explains the messages the game may show.

Start with the basics

Refresh the page and check that JavaScript is enabled. Make sure your browser is up to date, because older versions may not support the features the game uses. Try another browser or a private window to rule out an extension problem. If the game page loads but the game box stays on the Play Now poster, press the button, because the game only loads after you click it.

Try the separate page

The game normally runs inside a frame on the game page. If that frame does not behave, use the Open in a separate page link below it. The separate page runs the same game with the full window, which also helps on phones where scrolling can interfere.

Extensions and networks

Multiplayer uses a small library that loads from an external address. Some ad blockers, privacy extensions, school networks and work networks block it. When that happens, Quick Play still starts a match against the computer opponent, but private rooms and online matches will not work. Try turning off the extension for this site or switching to another network.

What the messages mean

Multiplayer library could not load: the connection library was blocked or your connection dropped. Room not found: the code is wrong or the host is no longer waiting. This room is already taken: another person has already joined that room. Connection lost: no updates arrived from the host for several seconds. Host left the match: the host closed the page or lost connection.

Still stuck?

Clear the site data for the page and reload, restart your browser and, on a phone, close background apps. If nothing works, write to us through the contact page and include your device, browser and the mode you tried. You can also review the controls in the How to Play guide.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the game work alone but not with a friend? Solo play does not need the multiplayer library, while rooms do.

Does clearing site data remove my nickname? Yes, because the nickname is stored in your browser. You can type it again.

Can a VPN cause problems? It can add delay and, on some networks, interfere with direct connections.
